About Me
I'm an experienced music teacher with a Bachelor in Music Education with Vocal Emphasis from the Hartt School of Music, West Hartford, CT. There, I studied classical voice with Wayne Rivera, a distinguished operatic tenor and Artistic Director of Concert Opera of San Miguel Allende in Mexico. I focus on building healthy vocal technique that can work for any genre of music. My own performance experience is with choir, folk, musical theatre, classical/opera, and jazz. I'm passionate about singing for the joy of it, using the voice as a means for emotional expression, and emotionally moving the listener. I can teach ages 4-90 - any ability level. Lessons tailored to your goals.

Want to understand music better? I have trained with the top music educators in the nation and can teach music literacy, ear training, sight singing, music history, and theory in a way that's sequential and easy to understand.
For those looking to use their voice to heal or deepen their spiritual practice, as a certified sound therapist, I can teach you vocal sound healing exercises that aid in meditation, emotional well-being, and connecting with the Divine.
Accompany yourself! I also teach piano and guitar for the Beginner - Intermediate!
Rates
$30 - 30 Minutes (Recommended for Ages 4-10)
$40 - 45 Minutes (Standard Singing Lesson)
$50 - 1 hr (Serious Singers or Supplemented Lessons)
Gift Certificates are Available! Just contact me with the name of the person, type, and amount of lessons and I'll email you the Paypal invoice. Once payment is received, you'll get a pretty printable certificate. For only $1 more, I'll even handle the printing and mailing for you!
Payment in the form of cash or check is accepted at the time of the lesson. If you need to pay with credit card, I can email you a Paypal invoice, which must be completed prior to the lesson time.

At this time, I am offering my singing, piano, and guitar lessons at:

207 Powell Street (2nd Floor).

Therefore, my availability is restricted to the hours of the Center:
Monday-Saturdays 9:30am – 6:00pm
Sun 12:00pm – 5:00pm
Other Important Information
The information below is from the Music Lesson Student Agreement. A pdf copy of the agreement can be downloaded by clicking this link.
Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance to avoid $10 fee for the rental of the room. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance will result in a fee equal to half the cost of the lesson. No-show will result in a fee equal to the cost of the lesson. Please call if you think you may be more than 5 minutes late. Lessons will begin and end at the agreed upon time. If the Teacher cancels a lesson without giving 1-hour advance notice, the Student will receive 1 free lesson equal to that of the missed lesson. No cash refunds will be given for missed lessons. To permanently stop lessons, please call or email the Teacher at least 48 hours prior to the next scheduled lesson.
Payment will be made at the time of the lesson or in advance in the form of cash, check, or money order. Please have the exact amount. Checks may be made out to Rachel Johnson. Gift certificates are available upon request.
To gain the greatest possible benefit from the lesson, certain guidelines are suggested:
Recommended practice time is a minimum of 10 focused minutes every day
Vocal students will benefit from recording the lessons with a sound recorder for practice
Student is responsible to promptly purchase all materials and music as needed for instruction; student must have use of lesson materials at home
Parent understands that the Teacher is not a childcare provider. Parents are welcome to attend the Student’s lesson or leave the Student until the scheduled lesson end time. No siblings, friends, or other visitors are allowed within the room.
Failure to follow the terms of this Agreement may result in termination of lessons without refund.
