Philosophy of Music Education

Music education is an essential part of all students’ complete education. Music offers us a unique way to communicate our experiences and feelings that other modes of expression cannot. Musical pursuit builds self-discipline and determination while boosting self-esteem and confidence. Performance within a musical ensemble enhances interpersonal skills, such as leadership and teamwork, as well as establishing a sense of belonging. Music is both an art and a science and it is well documented that participation in music improves abilities in all other learning subjects. Music is universal, every culture of the world has its own music, and learning the music of different cultures allows a student greater understanding of our world. In these ways, music education is vital in our schools in order to create well-rounded students.
